Can I have some advice please gents

My boys would like a Xbox for xmas and I was wondering if:

1: which is better xbox or PS3? or is it just a matter of personal preference?
2: Am I buying a console that is going to be replaced within the next 12 months or does it seem to have a longer shelf life?
3: I know you can stream HD movies to the PS3, can his also be done with the xBox?
4: Obviously this is for the boys but which will be better for me to play online when every1 else is in bed? Does either have any stand out titles that blow the other out of the water? or once again is this just down to personal preference?

That'll do for now but if any1 can think of anything else I should know then please fire away

Xbox dude. For the main reason for me is that the PS3 joysticks are convex so every now and again your thumbs will slip off them. The Xbox joysticks are concave so stay where they're suppose to.

At the end of the day it's personal preference BUT I have found when on my mates PS3 the laoding does take a bit longer than the Xbox for some reason.

I doubt another Xbox wont be out for another few years yet, not a major step-up anyway. Yes the PS3 has a BluRay player too so it depends what you're buying it for.

Its alot down to personal prefrance. PS3 has BluRay built in which swung it for me. Our lass love her Xbox as it has Kenetic system so you dont need controllers for some games. PS3 has built in network wirless but i think its an add on for the Xbox.
Ive not seen film streaming on the xbox but i could be wrong.

PS3 has free online gaming where Xbox you need to buy a yearly subscription which a Xbox player will have to confirm price.

As for new machines comming out in 12 months its anyones guess all the updates ect on PS4 and new Xbox are imposible to predict as would be a whole new contender to the market.......

There is a question you didnt ask...... games..... look into which games are console specific like Grand Tourismo is only available on the PS3 and im sure the Xbox has none shared titles too. Dont just choose the console choose the games you want to play.

I'm a PS man. Always have been always will be. I've never had an issue with the control pads i think they are far superior to the cockpit sized XBox ones. However, if i was buying a console for a kid i would probably go with an Xbox. It just seems the more popular choice with the kids and i would bet the majority of their mates have Xboxes for game swapping etc.

I was always a ps man, but switched to xbox 360 and I love it. I prefer the xbox controller to the ps too.
I had heard xbox 720 is out next year, probably for christmas. The games are the biggest deciding factor.
I really do miss gran turismo though!

ps3 you don't have to pay for online gaming i have been told xbox chargers £50.00
ps3 is allso plays blu ray
ps3 you can down load free playable demo games as well so if your boys get board theres allways demos to try and you can down load free playable demos of new relise games to see if there any good before you shell out for them

I've both and for gamimg alone i'd go for xbox but the ps3 is a better media device.

kinect on xbox also blows playstation move out of the water.

Yes you do have to pay for xbox live gold but you can get it for £25 a year on ebay or play.com when they have a sale on.

Don't get the 4gb one you'll only end up having to buy a harddrive.You should be able to get a bundle with kinect from tru or gamestation

I've seen that R2 xbox and it looks wicked But its a lot of dollar and its not out until March/April and thats assuming it doesnt get delayed again!

I have decided I'm going for a xbox 250gb with kinect. They can be picked up in a bundle with 2/3 games and 1 controller for around £270ish.

Hamster i've never really been into PS I owned a PS1 for about 6months and a PS3 when they first came out but got bored waiting for the game developers to write any decent games for it and sold it, I still own a PSP but only ever played championship manager and GTA on it! I've owned (or still own) a mega drive, nes, snes, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube and Wii. I would have gone down the PS3 route if the general consensus was 'buy a PS3' but as usual its all down to personal preference so I'm going to by myself, I mean the boys a xbox for xmas.

I've finally forked out for a new PS3 today. Wasn't happy about it as my last one packed up a few months back but got it at a decent price and gonna sell 1 of the controllers and the broken PS3 and make back about 40 quid of the 145 i spent. Not too bad in the end.

Yeah i've never really understand online. I feel like my grandad when we bought him a mobile phone. I went on line a couple of times and found it a little chaotic. I prefer to just play the games which sadly the developers don't put as much effort into as they should but there's still the odd good one out there. Not as good as games used to be but they'll do.
